What blood pressure is allowed for an HGV medical?

The important word here is consistently. A single elevated reading does not necessarily mean that you have failed your HGV medical or that you can never hold an HGV licence.
Blood pressure can vary considerably depending on factors such as stress, recent physical activity, caffeine, pain and anxiety. Some people also experience what is commonly called “white coat hypertension”, where their blood pressure rises temporarily in a medical environment.

What happens if your blood pressure is high at your HGV medical?

Your doctor may repeat the measurement after allowing you to rest. This is particularly relevant if you have arrived after rushing to the appointment or are feeling particularly anxious.
If your blood pressure remains significantly elevated, you may need further assessment or evidence that your blood pressure is being appropriately managed.

Remember that the HGV medical assesses more than blood pressure. Other areas of your health, including eyesight, cardiovascular health, neurological conditions, diabetes and other relevant medical conditions, may also need to be considered under the Group 2 standards.
